The Unbearable Lightness of Being in Aberystwyth, chapter 9

8.1.14

Ll.

This bit made me laugh rather a lot, largely because I didn't quite get it until the end.

(Note: the book is in English, with occasional Welsh and Latin remarks.)

Sherlock: The Empty Hearse

5.1.14

There isn't anything about this series I don't enjoy. You know, besides the two-year gaps between them.

And isn't Mary just brilliant! That, ladies and gentlemen, is what we mean by a 'strong' woman.

Sherlock: A Study in Pink

13.3.11

I've seen this a few times now: when it first showed for the second time; my recording of the second first time, twice; with my sister; with my parents.

Not bad considering it’s my last year of uni.

Fantastic!
Do you know you do that out loud?

One of Our Thursdays is Missing, chapter 1

4.3.11

I'm on page 2 as I write this. I'd have gotten much, much further (i.e. the end) but first there was a map to distract me for a good half an hour, and then there are other unconnected deadlines impressing their importance on me with a little thing called terror.

Doctor Who, episode 4.7

5.2.11

Why are you so good, Agatha Christie?

Because you understand.
You've lived.
You've fought, you've had your heart broken.

You know about people, their passions, their hope and despair and anger—all of those, tiny huge things that can turn the most ordinary person into a killer.

Sherlock Holmes (2009)

21.1.11

The second viewing, in which I was slightly less enthralled by the story and thus able to pay more attention to everything else.

The music sounded very akin to Sherlock's.

And Mark Strong was another brilliant baddie (who's kind of likable, just listen to his voice.)

First Among Sequels, chapter 28

16.1.11

This is for my sister, and for anyone else who likes Bones, Brendan Fraser, and is temporarily stuck in TK-Maxx.

TK-Maxx is actually a Temporal-K Maximum security time prison.

Someone is trying to kill Dr Temperance Brennan.

And you don't find out who Brendan Fraser played in The Eyre Affair.

First Among Sequels, chapter 3

12.1.11

Reality TV was to me the worst for of entertainment - the modern equivalent of paying sixpence to watch lunatics howling at the walls down at the local madhouse.

'What's wrong with a good book?'

At least ours aren't as bad as Celebrity Trainee Pathologist or Sell Your Granny. I think.

First Among Sequels

10.1.11

I've actually finished this book now. The finishing happened between 3am and 8.30am today. There was one small pause to let the cat in/out, and a couple more to scribble down notes about it, which I will type out here word-for-squiggle. Because it was brilliant.
